Chuck Thomas has been making prayer wheels since 2004. In that time, he has made more than 1,000 prayer wheels for individuals around the world. He learned to make prayer wheels from Tai Vautier in 2003 and a year later started Heartwood Prayer Wheels.
Chuck has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism since 1973 when he first met Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche at Kopan Monastery in Nepal. He moved to Vajrapani Institute in 1977 to help build the center, living there until 1992. In 1986, Chuck helped build a stupa for Lama Yeshe at Vajrapani Institute and in 1988, he helped build a stupa at Deer Park (Geshe Sopa’s center outside Madison, Wisconsin).
Chuck has been fortunate to study with many extraordinary teachers through the years, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lama Yeshe, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Zong Rinpoche, Garchen Rinpoche, and many other incredible masters.
Chuck makes each prayer wheel by hand in his workshops at his home in California, shipping them to practitioners throughout the world. His wife Valerie, who is also a long time Buddhist practitioner, helps him manage the business.
